We have a show on Saturday, May 16, at the Elevens in Northampton with special guest Matt Keating (see below). A number of people — apparently newbies to the whole Storybox extravaganza — have asked me what the band sounds like.
There are two ways for you to hear for yourselves. The first is to go to the official Storybox MySpace page. There are four songs there in their entirety.
You can also go to the Storybox page on DigStation and listen to 30-second clips of every song on our debut album Empty Canvas. And if you like what you hear, you can also download the CD there!
Storybox will be playing the Elevens in Northampton on Saturday, May 16. It is an early show and should be a hoot. We are going to focus on our more upbeat songs and toss in a couple of upbeat covers. So there could even be some foot-moving. Who knows?
The additional good news is that Matt Keating, one of my favorite singer-songwriters, is coming up from New York City with a bass player to serve as special guest. Matt (that’s him in the photo) has a number of CDs, and all of them are great!
The best blurb about Matt comes from the New York Times’ Jon Parales who wrote: “His tunes are clear-cut, and his confessions and uncertainty ring true.”
Matt goes on at 7. We go on at 8. It should be a fun night of music! Tickets are $5 at the door.
Matt Dube wrote a really nice feature story about Storybox in the Valley Advocate. The interview took place at the Dirty Truth. And well, I did ramble on a bit. But Matt was somehow able to make sense of the verbal walkabout.
Columnist Tom Shea has an awesome story in today’s Republican about our very own Bob Kuhn.
We in the band have all appreciated Bob, the musician, and Bob, the person, for a while. We’re quite grateful to have the privilege of playing with him and knowing him and listening to his stories — even those that are seemingly without endings. And now, all of Western Massachusetts — or at least those that subscribe to the Republican, go online at MassLive.com, Google Bob Kuhn on a daily basis or read this blog regularly — will get to know our Bob by reading Shea’s wonderful column.
Storybox will be headlining at the Iron Horse on Thursday, Feb. 5. The show is at 7 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
Tickets are $10 in advance and $13 at the door. You can avoid service charges if you buy your ticket from a band member in advance. (You know where to find us.)
We are excited to announce that we will have a special guest playing with us. They are the Spring Standards, a really cool trio from New York City. (That is their photo up there.) They will go on right at 7, so don’t be late if you want to check out these guys.
You can check out their music at the Spring Standards MySpace page. They were recently on the Conan O’Brien show as the musical guest.
Here is the reconfigured Storybox in all our glory.
From left to right in the front row areJared Quinn (lead guitar), Debi Salli (vocals) and Scott Brodeur (guitar/vocals). In the back row is Glenn Morin (percussion), Mark Manganaro (drums), Bob Kuhn (trumpet/vocals) and Ron Saloio (bass).
We will be playing The Elevens in Northampton on Saturday, Nov. 22. The show starts at 7 p.m. with Ray Mason. Storybox goes on at 8. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Contact a band member if you want advance tickets.
With great fanfare and a loud but tasteful trumpet flourish, we happily announce that Storybox is back in business. Yes, it’s been a long, strange trip. But we are back — finally with a slightly revamped lineup. We will spare you the gory details — for now.
Let us just say for the time being that Storybox will be performing live on Saturday, Nov. 22 at the Elevens in Northampton.
Local legend Ray Mason will go on at 7 p.m. We will go on precisely at 8 p.m.
Advance tickets will be available soon.
And we will be updating this Web site with new photos, new news and new other things.
It’s always fun when an old friend finds this Web site — and purchases a CD! That has been happening more regularly lately for some reason, which is cool.

Anyway, I saw a band in New Orleans this week that blew me away. They are called The Palmetto Bug Stompers. If you ever get a chance to see them, definitely go. Great musicians. Fun band.
My friend Katy, who fronts the fun Northampton band Katyland, told me when she first heard the Steve Earle single “City of Immigrants,” she thought it was Storybox who was backing Earle on it. High praise — humbly accepted.
The backing band actually is the New York City-based, Brazilian-flavored Forro in the Dark, a group you should surely check out if you get a chance.
